Current Bill Summary

SB 138 - This act requires physicians to inform breast implantation patients of the risks and advantages involved with the surgery. Patients must be given this information at least five days before the operation. To assist the physician in this process, this act requires the Department of Insurance to provide a standardized written summary regarding breast implantation for a physician to distribute to the patient. The physician must then obtain a signed acknowledgment of receipt of the summary from the patient.

The written summary should disclose all general information about breast implantation and discuss the dangers and side effects of the operation. It should be updated as necessary and distributed to all physicians, hospitals, and clinics that perform breast implantation.

This act is similar to SS#2/SCS/HB 191.
