Current Bill Summary

SB 294 - This act makes various changes to the motor vehicle law.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY - This act requires that motorcyclists under 21 years of age and every person operating a motorcycle or motortricycle which has a passenger who is under 21 years of age wear protective headgear. Currently, all motorcyclists are required to wear protective headgear. Each person operating a motor cycle must furnish proof to the Director of Revenue that he or she has a motor vehicle liability policy subject to the minimum limits in Section 303.190, RSMo. This portion of the act is similar to HB 184 (1999).

DRIVING WITH A REVOKED LICENSE - This act also makes driving with a revoked license a Class D felony on the third or subsequent conviction. The current law states that driving while revoked is a Class A misdemeanor. This part of the act has an emergency clause.
