SS/SB 309 - This act allows the Superintendent of the Highway Patrol to appoint up to twenty-five captains (currently twenty-two) and sixty lieutenants (currently forty-six), with an overall cap of nine hundred sixty-five (currently nine hundred forty). Members of the Patrol hired in conjunction with the community-oriented policing services federal grant are not subject to the personnel cap even after the grant expires.
The act is similar to SB 808 from 1998.
