FISCAL ANALYSIS

ASSUMPTION

Officials from the Office of the State Courts Administrator do not anticipate a significant impact on the workload of the judiciary as a result of the proposed legislation.

Officials from the Office of the Attorney General assume the proposed legislation would have no fiscal impact on their agency.

Officials from the Office of Prosecution Services assume the proposed legislation creates a new crime; but, the impact on any given office will be minimal or none at all.

Officials from the Office of the State Public Defender assume that existing staff could provide representation for those 10-25 cases arising where indigent persons were accused of "identity theft". However, passage of more than one similar bill would require the State Public Defender System to request increased appropriations to cover the cumulative costs of representing the indigent accused in the additional cases.
