HB 103 -- NUISANCE ACTIONS SPONSOR: Treadway COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Civil and Administrative Law by a vote of 18 to 0. Current law requires petitioners in Kansas City and St. Louis to file nuisance actions for deteriorated property in small claims court. This bill allows petitioners to file such actions in circuit court. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the current law is satisfactory for approximately 90% of the cases, but some situations involve monetary damages above the jurisdiction of small claims courts. This bill provides an avenue of relief for those cases. Testifying for the bill was Representative Treadway. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
