HB 453 -- SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS (Gross) This bill specifies that state agencies may disclose the Social Security number of a deceased person if the agency knows of no reason why that disclosure would harm the deceased individual's estate or relatives. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
HB 453 -- SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS CO-SPONSORS: Gross, May (108) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Judiciary by a vote of 17 to 0. This bill specifies that state agencies may disclose the Social Security number of a deceased person if the agency knows of no reason why that disclosure would harm the deceased individual's estate or relatives. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill is necessary to save money for the state. If the bill is not passed, the state will be required to remove the Social Security number of deceased individuals from records at a high cost. Testifying for the bill were Representative Gross; and the Office of the Secretary of State. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
