Born January 3, 1938, in Bates County. Graduated with honors from Central Missouri State University and University of Missouri-Columbia (A.B., J.D., Order of the Coif).

Married Kay Head, October 26, 1974. They have a son, Kyle. He is an attorney at law. Served as Bates county prosecuting attorney. Serves as the Assistant Majority Floor Leader.

Member: First Baptist Church, Butler. Has served as Majority Caucus Chair and Majority Floor Leader. Elected to the Senate: 1976-1992.
