FISCAL ANALYSIS



ASSUMPTION



Officials of the Department of Economic Development, Public Service Commission and Office of the Public Counsel state that this proposal would permit increased penalties for safety related violations of the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act and that their agencies would carry out their duties under this proposal with existing resources.



Department of Natural Resources officials did not respond to our fiscal note request.

FISCAL IMPACT - Small Business



Small businesses who could be subject to increased penalties under the proposed legislation would be expected to be impacted as a result of this proposal.





DESCRIPTION



This proposal increases the penalties for violations of the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act to be in line with the current federal penalties which are $25,000 per violation with a maximum of $500,000 per related series of violations.



This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental space.
