ASSUMPTION
Officials of the Kansas City Manager's Office stated that they currently assess penalties for property code violations. Officials assume that this proposal would increase the amount of income derived from penalties .
Oversight assumes that income from fines would vary from year to year and will show fiscal impact as unknown.

FISCAL IMPACT - Small Business
No direct fiscal impact to small businesses would be expected as a result of this proposal.
DESCRIPTION
This proposal would allow cities with a population of 400,000 or more to enact ordinances to protect public and private property from nuisances and property code violations. Punishment for ordinance violations would be a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars or by imprisonment not to exceed twelve months for each offense, or by both fine and imprisonment.
This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental space.
