JEFFERSON CITY — Senator David Sater, R-Cassville, was named vice chairman of the Senate Interim Committee on Medicaid Transformation and Reform recently by Senate Leader Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles.

“I am looking forward to serving as vice chairman of this important committee,” said Sen. Sater. “Eight years ago, I served on a similar interim committee that reformed the Medicaid system at that time. The result was increased access to care while saving our state precious tax dollars. My experience as Appropriations chairman for Medicaid and chairman of the Healthcare Policy Committee in the House of Representatives gives me a greater understanding of this issue.”

The committee will study Missouri’s options related to Medicaid reform, take an in-depth look at what other states are doing, and look for ways to make the program more efficient.

“The purpose of this committee is to determine what is the best course for Missouri on this issue, not Washington, D.C.,” said Sen. Sater. “I am confident we can find ways to make Medicaid a more efficient and cost-effective program for both those in need and for our taxpayers.”

Senator Gary Romine, R-Farmington, was named chairman of the interim committee, and the remaining members will likely be named within the next week.
