JEFFERSON CITY — Today (1-10), Sen. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, was appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence. Senator Dixon joins other committee chairs appointed by Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, to provide leadership and ensure the smooth functioning of the committee process.
“A strong legal system is the foundation for a free society and economic growth,” said Sen. Dixon. “We all benefit when the legal system has the resources to handle cases quickly and when routine matters of life and work are dealt with smoothly. I look forward to working with committee members to seek beneficial improvements to Missouri’s legal system. I consider it an honor to be named as chairman and appreciate the trust expressed in me by the President Pro Tem."
The duties of the committee include consideration of bills relating Missouri's legal system, including the courts, judicial procedures, civil and criminal law, and corrections.
Senator Dixon was also appointed as vice chair of the Jobs, Economic Development & Local Government Committee, which considers legislation relating to the promotion of economic development, the creation and retention of jobs, commercial development, tourism and local government.
In addition, Sen. Dixon was also appointed to the following committees:
- Financial and Governmental Organizations and Elections
- Transportation and Infrastructure.
