I am Kelsey Sullivan, and I’m interning for Sen. Will Kraus during the 2013 legislative session. I’m a junior at the University of Missouri in Columbia, and I am a Communications major with a minor in English. I am from the senator’s district in Lee’s Summit, and I graduated Lee’s Summit West High School in 2010. I hope to graduate from Mizzou in May 2014 and pursue a career in public relations, human resources or advising/counseling, where I can use my communication skills to guide and help people or companies in their careers and professional life.

I’m interning here at the Capitol on Tuesdays and Thursdays for writing-intensive class credits through the Civic Leaders Internship Program. This program specializes in matching qualified Mizzou students with offices at the Capitol that need some extra help during session.

I will frequently research topics for the office. I will also write papers throughout the session about my experience here in Sen. Kraus’ office where I am learning a lot about state government. I am excited to gain more experience in the areas of public and organizational communication, but, most of all, learn how a professional office works on a daily basis. I started this internship in early January over my winter break, and, thus far, have greatly enjoyed my time here and learned quite a bit about how government works. What I enjoy most about this internship is getting the chance to be of assistance to Sen. Kraus as he helps the people in his district. I enjoy assisting him with constituent services, such as answering letters, writing constituent recognition letters and helping organize certain events important to his district and the Legislature. I also love to interact with the staff and other people who come in and out of our office. I feel this internship will give me an unparalleled experience that I couldn’t get anywhere else. I hope to learn everything I can and seize every opportunity this job will provide for my future goals.
