JEFFERSON CITY — Now that the 2013 session is over, and my staff and I are starting to focus on our interim projects, it is time to hear from the citizens of the 8th District. One of the best ways for me to represent my district is to frequently hold town hall meetings and discover what is important to you.
Over the time I have been in the Legislature, I have held dozens of town halls and attended many business or social group meetings. At each of these, I do my best to give a recap of what has been happening in Jefferson City, followed by a question-and-answer session for the bulk of the meeting. I will take any question, and the discussion can get lively. I will also usually stay after the meeting has ended to talk one-on-one with constituents.
This is your chance to approach me with a legislative issue that you would like to discuss. The big issues of the 2013 session will certainly come up - like tax cuts and your privacy – but we can discuss any issue. Sometimes, it is at town halls that I get ideas for legislation to work on for the coming year. Every year I have been in the Senate, we have passed a bill brought to me by a constituent. Next year, it could be your idea.
Town halls are also a good place to discuss any issues you or your family may have with state government. Our bureaucracy does not always work as well as it should. If you need assistance with a state problem, let me know and I will do my best to see if we can get it resolved.
I look forward to meeting you and hearing your thoughts.
