We are truly blessed here in rural Missouri. We are not subject to the chaos of big cities. Life moves a little slower here, which is how we prefer it. Every day, we see the importance of local community in our daily lives. It is this kind of caring and respect that especially shines during the holidays. The tragedies that have happened across the country this year remind us of the importance of relying on our neighbors, churches and community organizations.
This is the time of year when people smile more often and reach out to others, be it just to say hello or to help out in any way they can. I wish we could bottle this feeling and keep it around all year.
Our families, friends and neighbors are there for us — in both good times and bad. Any time you donate food, clothing, supplies, time or financial support, it strengthens the value and worth of our area. Food pantries and other charities continue to see great need, and I am thankful for your generosity. Deer hunters have helped hundreds in our communities over the past few weeks by donating meat to “Share the Harvest,” which benefits needy families throughout Missouri. Despite the slow start to the season, there is still plenty of time to get into the woods before January.
In the next few weeks, we will turn the calendar to a new month and new year. As the cold creeps in and we go about our daily lives, let us remember the kindheartedness shown each day during this holiday season, and pass it on throughout the new year.
Please take a moment to pray for the safety of our military personnel and their families as they are separated during the holidays. Also remember those who suffered damage after devastating tornadoes ripped through parts of the Midwest earlier this month. Many of us saw wind damage as these storms started in northeast Missouri and gathered strength as they moved over the Mississippi River. Our thoughts and prayers are with the survivors and their families as they rebuild their homes and their lives.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. We hope to see you out and about over the holidays.
