Senator Jamilah Nasheed Remarks on Passing of a Local Legend
|
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, released a statement today (6-12) regarding the passing of a long-time St. Louis radio personality and restaurateur, Lou “Fatha” Thimes:
“For many years, as far back as 1956, citizens of St. Louis have heard his melodic flow weaving through the music he played over the airwaves. Lou “Fatha” Thimes was a man who stood proud for his community, and continued for so many years spreading the words that spoke to so many hearts across our diverse city.
As a man, he worked tirelessly through the years, from his work as a ring announcer at Kiel Auditorium, the first African-American to do that job, to his synonymous connection with the local rhythm and blues scene. His life had weight, merit. As a father, his talented children carry on his spark, his artist’s distinction. At a time in our lives when we need the familiar to carry us into the future, Lou “Fatha” Thimes was that voice.
Our community will feel this loss. But we can take comfort in knowing his was a life well-lived.”
Senator Nasheed can be reached by contacting her Capitol office at (573) 751-4415.
