Senator Jamilah Nasheed Professes Outrage at Student Rejection
|
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, released a statement today (6-20) expressing her outrage at the actions taken by the Francis Howell School Board, barring students who had transferred from nearby unaccredited Normandy School District from returning:
“Today’s announcement is a nothing less than a major setback for local children. I am appalled that the Francis Howell School Board would deny innocent students the right to a quality education. These students merely wanted the opportunity to learn in an environment where they were accepted and could put forth their best efforts.
I can’t help but feel like this is an affront to our local students, a slap in the face of our most precious resources. Normandy students are no less deserving of the best we can offer than any other school in any local school district. We should provide the best possible education by any means necessary in order to deliver the brightest future.
At the end of the day, inequality rose its ugly head in the Francis Howell School District.”
Senator Nasheed can be reached by contacting her at (314) 409-5730. |
