Senator Nasheed Makes Personal Appeal to Governor to Put Politics Aside and Appoint a Special Prosecutor in Michael Brown Case

JEFFERSON CITY — Today (8-27), Missouri State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, delivered a letter to the governor, appealing to her fellow statesman to request, yet again, that a special prosecutor be appointed to investigate the tragedy of Michael Brown’s death.

“I can only hope that the governor chooses to see this letter in the way it was intended,” said Sen. Nasheed. “There are many citizens in the St. Louis area, and beyond, who are concerned that St. Louis Prosecutor Robert McCulloch will not approach this case with an unbiased eye.”

Sen. Nasheed also calls upon the governor to take these steps, not only for the good of those involved in the Michael Brown case, but for the good of all citizens of the Show-Me State. In the letter, the senator implores the governor to begin rebuilding his connection with local constituents.

“Governor, I invite you to start building this bridge now.  We desperately need to get our state past the potential rioting that looms by convening a dialogue with the parties who have a stake in this issue and our state’s future.”

Senator Nasheed remains dedicated to opening the lines of communication between the Capitol and the citizens of St. Louis City and County. She has tirelessly devoted herself to being the voice for the voiceless, and that is something from which she does not waiver.
