Missouri Police Chiefs Recognize Sen. Bob Dixon as 2013 Senator of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY — Recently, the Missouri Police Chiefs Association recognized Sen. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, as its 2013 Senator of the Year for his legislative efforts to promote public safety. The award was presented in Jefferson City, where police chiefs from throughout the state gathered for the MPCA's 2013 Annual Conference.

“Senator Bob Dixon is a true statesman and reliable friend of the law enforcement community,” stated MPCA Executive Director Sheldon Lineback. “The MPCA is proud to recognize him as the 2013 Senator of the Year.”

The MPCA Senator of the Year award is given to a Missouri senator who has demonstrated honesty, a strong conviction to ensuring public safety, a proven desire to understand the global issues of Missouri law enforcement, and the resolve to do what is right.

“As Senate Judiciary chair, I am committed to a strong, effective criminal justice system,” state Sen. Dixon.  “I am proud of our work with Missouri’s law enforcement community to provide them with the tools they need to keep our neighborhoods and communities safe. I am also thankful this year to have successfully renewed our tax credit program to aid surviving spouses of public safety officers whose lives were lost in the line of duty.”

During the 2013 session, Sen. Dixon served as handler of House Bill 215, which modified several areas of law regarding the criminal justice system. He also sponsored Senate Bill 20, which became law in late March, extended the expiration date of the Public Safety Officer Surviving Spouse Tax Credit program from Aug. 28, 2013, to Dec. 31, 2019.
