Senator Will Kraus Calls on Department of Revenue to Release Tax Refunds

Requests Documents on Decision-Making Process

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Will Kraus, R-Lee’s Summit, has called on the Missouri  Department of Revenue (DOR) to immediately release all outstanding tax refunds to Missouri taxpayers. As many as 300,000 tax refunds are still being held by the department.

“This is yet another example of this administration keeping money from the people and businesses that earned it,” said Sen. Kraus. “DOR seems to have no shame when it comes to holding onto these taxpayer dollars.”

Sen. Kraus also called on DOR to immediately release to the Senate Interim Committee on Tax Administration Practices any internal documents which show the decision-making process used by the department to determine when to release taxpayer refunds.

“As chairman of the Senate Interim Committee on Tax Administration Practices, I have sent a letter formally requesting any documents that will help the committee understand why taxpayer refunds have been held,” said Sen. Kraus. “I expect these documents to be delivered in a timely manner, so that we can begin the process of researching the department’s decisions.”
