I have the pleasure to work with two great interns this session. As in the past, I encouraged them to do a report to talk about their experience.

Desari Robinette:
Hello, my name is Desari Robinette and I have been privileged this semester to work in Sen. Munzlinger’s office. I attend Southeast Missouri State University, where I study Political Science and Public Relations. When the opportunity of working in our State Capitol arose, I was very eager to participate. I have always had an interest in government and the day to day operations and functions that help to keep our cities, states and country running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. After being placed in Sen. Munzlinger’s office, I quickly became aware of how much hard work and dedication goes into representing a district as large and complex as District 18. The senator and his staff have served as great examples throughout my short five months in the Capitol. They allowed me to complete advanced projects that tested not only my skills, but my knowledge as well.

While interning I have learned so much about how state government operates. I have also learned a lot in regards to agriculture and its importance in the state of Missouri. Through compiling research, sifting through legislation, and completing day-to-day office duties, I can honestly say I have grown as an individual and have gained a better understanding in the importance of performing my civic duty of being an informed, active voter and citizen. It has truly been a privilege to work in an office that values the work and efforts of its entire staff. I have gained a greater respect for those who commit themselves to being a public servant and for those who complete the difficult task of representing such a diverse group of people. It has truly been an honor to work for Sen. Munzlinger and I will take so much away from my experience at the Capitol.

Candace Rosen:
Hello, my name is Candace Rosen, and I am a sophomore at the University of Missouri majoring in Strategic Communication Journalism and Political Science. I grew up on a family farm in Frankford, where my family has raised row crops and livestock for over three generations. I raised mostly sheep and show cattle for my FFA projects, but my grandfather took me with him in the fields often. With an upbringing centralized in agriculture, there was no doubt what office I belonged in when I agreed to do the Civic Leaders Internship Program with the MU Honors College.

With Sen. Munzlinger being the senator for my own home district and his position as chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Food Production and Outdoor Resources Committee, his office has been a great fit for me. I have learned so much about the legislative process and state government in general during my time with Sen. Munzlinger. The senator and his staff have really gone the extra mile to make sure that I not only get to observe, but participate in the committee meetings and other events that relate to my interests. This great experience has made me confident that a future career advocating for agriculture is exactly where I belong. It has been a blessing to have the opportunity to combine my passions of agriculture and government into my internship experience with Sen. Munzlinger’s office, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Both Desari and Candace have done an exceptional job working in my Capitol office. Young citizens of our state are better served when they have an opportunity to share their drive and compassion on the issues that are important to all of us.
