Senator Pearce Recognized as Education Legislator of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY - Recently, Sen. David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, was awarded the title of Legislator of the Year by the Associated Students – University of Missouri (ASUM) organization.

“It is an honor to be recognized by these young leaders from the University of Missouri-Columbia campus,” Sen. Pearce said. “These students are the future of advocacy for higher education and I am proud to stand with them. I look forward to working with them on future higher education initiatives.”

The purpose of this student organization is to teach students about the political process, including increasing political awareness and participation among today’s college students. Also, by acting as the student voice in government, ASUM encourages students and promotes interest and energy in government and its process.

“Higher education is an important springboard for today’s students to become tomorrow’s leaders,” Sen. Pearce said. “Taking part in this organization that guides dedicated students to take on roles that will teach them about their local and state government is important to me.”

The ASUM office is located on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus, however, students from all four University of Missouri System campuses, including Missouri
S & T, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and University of Missouri-Kansas City, serve as ambassadors and are often involved with projects, such as letter writing and voter registration.
