Senator Jamilah Nasheed on Chief Jackson’s Stepping Down from the Ferguson Police Department

JEFFERSON CITY — The fallout from the Department of Justice report on the Ferguson Police Department continues this week with the resignation of Chief Tom Jackson. The words of the protestors are coming true - “No justice. No peace. No racist police.”

Senator Nasheed, D-St. Louis, explained, “His resignation has many locals, including local elected officials, believing once again that justice has not turned a blind eye. The report showed the Ferguson law enforcement is, like many small communities around St. Louis, plagued with biased-based policing. This fact is not news to any minority member of the local citizenry. The facts and statistics in the report are outrageous, but these findings come as no surprise to most Ferguson and St. Louis area residents. The next step is to dismantle the Ferguson Police Department altogether.”

“In order to heal the wounds or racism in Ferguson, the people, need a clean slate and new leadership,” said Sen. Nasheed. “I have to say I am elated to see that Michael Brown’s death is not in vain. The systematic changes and new leadership should and must continue.”
