On Jan. 8, 2015, I accepted the Champion of Freedom Award from the Missouri Alliance for Freedom. The Missouri Alliance for Freedom is a non-profit, issue advocacy organization.

This past week has been busy. One of the seven bills I introduced was Senate Bill 248, which prohibits higher education institutions from denying religious student associations benefits available to other student associations and from discrimination.

Over the past week, I have met with several constituents and agencies concerning the budget.  I look forward to beginning appropriations work on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at noon when public testimony commences.

In addition to being appointed chairman of the Appropriations Committee, I have been assigned to the

Mark Langworthy with sponsor Senator Schaefer, during the Gubernatorial Appointments Committee hearing.

Gubernatorial Appointments Committee. Not only am I on the committee, but I also sponsored the appointment of Mark Langworthy to the Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan Board of Trustees.

Over the last nine years, Mark has been the senior director of development for the University of Missouri School of Law. His experience as an adjunct faculty member of the College of Human Environmental Sciences at MU will enable him to contribute leadership and knowledge to the Board of Trustees.

The governor will issue his State of the State address in the House Chamber on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. The address will be streamed live at www.MO.gov.
