SEN. ERIC SCHMITT NAMED TO COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE PLANNED PARENTHOOD

JEFFERSON CITY - Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Glendale), has been named to the Senate Interim Committee on the Sanctity of Life which has been tasked with investigating Planned Parenthood, its leadership, its employees and their actions to determine if they have violated state law.

“These actions by Planned Parenthood are heinous and evil,” Schmitt said. “The sale of fetal body parts by Planned Parenthood is truly degrading to human life and cannot be permitted to continue. The investigation I will undertake with the other members of the committee will determine whether state laws were broken, and if so, the extent of these reckless acts on unborn children in Missouri. Make no mistake, if you work or have worked for Planned Parenthood and committed a crime, you should know right now that our committee will follow the evidence wherever it leads.”

Senate President Tom Dempsey (R-St. Charles) formed the committee in light of a recent video that showed Planned Parenthood representatives discussing the sale of fetal body parts. The committee will hold public hearings before submitting its findings to the General Assembly by December 1, 2015.

“It is clear that this situation warrants a thorough investigation so that Missourians can know the truth about what has been going on at Planned Parenthood,” Schmitt concluded.
