Sen. Silvey Issues Statement on the Savage Beating of a Student at Liberty Middle School |
JEFFERSON CITY—Senator Ryan Silvey, R-Kansas City, today issued the following statement in regards to the recent brutal beating of a 12-year-old autistic boy in the cafeteria at Liberty Middle School by a fellow student and the school’s failure to take preventative action after the victim’s parents notified the school of ongoing instances of bullying:
"The reports on the incident at Liberty Middle school are disturbing. As a parent, my heart goes out to the Kitchen family and I am deeply troubled by the incident. As a member of the community, I want to know how something like this would happen, but as legislator, I am incredibly angry that this issue was brought forward to the school and nothing was done. I understand we do not know all the details, but it appears the pleas of a family to protect their child from bullying were ignored and this will not be taken lightly."
