JEFFERSON CITY — Senator Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, today announced the confirmation of Crista Hogan, Executive Director of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, as a member of the State Lottery Commission. The governor named Hogan to the Public Defender Commission on July 7, 2014, as an interim appointment, subject to Senate confirmation. Yesterday (1-29), the Senate gave its unanimous approval to her appointment for a term ending July 16, 2020.
“As Senate Judiciary chair, and during my service in the House, I have found Crista’s advice and counsel on judicial and legal issues to be invaluable,” said Sen. Bob Dixon. “I look forward to her service on the Public Defender Commission, and I know she will be a dedicated and productive member, one who is interested in continued improvements in the administration of justice in Missouri. The Public Defender Commission is only one of many boards and commissions with vacant or expired positions to which qualified Missourians can be appointed to serve.”
Hogan has served as executive director of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association since 2001. In 2013, she was appointed to the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Judicial Independence. In her role as SMBA Executive Director, she led the development and execution of a Volunteer Public Defender Program, which sought to aid the local MSPD office in Springfield by recruiting and training volunteer attorneys to accept appointments. In 2012, the Missouri Bar recognized Hogan with the Pro Bono Publico Award, which acknowledges outstanding pro bono activities.
The Public Defender Commission is the governing body for the Missouri Public Defender System (MSPD), the state agency responsible for providing legal representation to all indigent citizens accused of or convicted of crimes in Missouri.
