It was another busy week here in Jefferson City as lawmakers and staff returned to the State Capitol after a shortened weekend, due to Daylight Savings Time. This week, the Senate approved several bills and heard more bills in various committees. Also, the Missouri House gave its approval to our state’s $26.1 billion Fiscal Year 2016 budget. The House’s budget bills will now travel to the Senate for the same consideration. Once the Senate Appropriations Committee and the full Senate approve our version of the budget, lawmakers will meet to hash out any differences, and ultimately craft the final version of our state’s budget.

The Senate Small Business, Insurance and Industry Committee held a lengthy hearing on Tuesday afternoon. This week’s meeting heard testimony on Senate Bill 127, known as the Right to Work bill. It was a packed house with several opponents and proponents of the legislation. As Committee Chairman, I am committed to making sure every voice is heard before we vote to send the measure to the floor for full debate.

The spring-like weather brought in hundreds of visitors from around the state this week, including many from the 28th Senatorial District. This week I was pleased to visit with Pro Life Citizens, Dallas Co 4th graders class, Kevin Lowery, Principal-Lebanon HS and students, Teri Turner and Chris Kindle with Smith-Cotton HS Fine Arts, Circuit Clerks, Treasurers, State Fair Community College, Greene County Sheriff Kevin Spaulding & daughter Kylee, Shane, Jenny & Chloe Deppe-Bolivar, and UM Extension.
