HJR 69 Modifies term limits for members of the General Assembly

HCS/HJR 69 - Current law prohibits any person from serving more than 16 years in the General Assembly, with no more than 8 years in any one house. This constitutional amendment, if approved by the voters, prohibits any persons serving more than 16 years in the General Assembly, regardless the house in which such service occurs. Furthermore, the amendment prohibits any person from serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives for more than 3 terms or as President Pro Tem of the Senate for more than 2 terms.

This amendment is substantially similar to provisions in SJR 70 (2024), HJR 77 (2024), HJR 90 (2024), HJR 114 (2024), HJR 4 (2023), HCS/HJR 42 (2021), SJR 37 (2020), HJR 68 (2020), HJR 89 (2024), a provision in HJR 31 (2019), SJR 29 (2018), and HJR 50 (2018).
