Remembering History and Celebrating Freedom
I am humbled and honored to be selected by the people of the 6th Senatorial District to be their state senator and to participate in the legislative process allowed by the Constitution. It is an added bonus that the capital city of Missouri is located in my district. It is a constant reminder of the state’s and the nation’s short but influential history. Next Tuesday we will celebrate Independence Day, the day the United States came into being 247 years ago. While our country is not perfect, and there are many issues that divide us, thinking back to the foundational principles that drove our founding fathers to risk their lives and sign the Declaration of Independence can help us work through those differences in ways that unite us instead of tearing us apart, moving us toward a brighter future. It is because I believe in those principles that I led the charge in establishing the America 250 Commission by presenting Senate Concurrent Resolution 7. The commission will be made up of 15 people responsible for planning, promoting and implementing public celebrations and commemorations of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. One of the freedoms that is foundational to our country’s success is the idea that people can make their own future and serve each other by creating successful products, services or businesses. I believe promoting the entrepreneurial spirit is a foundation of my role as a state senator as well. That’s why I am very honored and humbled to be selected by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce as a 2023 Business Champion. The chamber recognizes lawmakers each year that supported legislation during session that grows Missouri’s economy and encourages a more competitive business environment. I’m proud to play any part I can in making our state and country a better place, and I look forward to celebrating the freedoms we all share. I wish you and your family a fun and safe 4th of July holiday as well. Please feel free to contact my office at (573) 751-2076.
