Senator Mary Elizabeth Coleman Honors the

Memory of Alex Marley with New State Law

JEFFERSON CITY — Legislation sponsored by State Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman, R-Arnold, honoring the memory of Alex Marley, was signed into law on July 6.

Senate Bill 227 amends Missouri’s homicide statutes to allow for the state to pursue first degree homicide charges if the state can show an individual had the intention to kill a specific or a random person.

“Perpetrators of violent crime must be held accountable for their heinous acts. The Missouri Legislature passed and the governor signed my legislation making it easier for murderers who did not know their victims to be charged with murder in the first degree,” said Sen. Coleman. “Alex Marley was taught to help those in need and that was what he was doing on the day his life was cut short. I pray for continued healing for his family.”
