Lawmakers Join Senator Moon in Supporting Missouri Attorney General’s Defense of the SAFE Act

Lawmakers Join Senator Moon in Supporting Jefferson City — State Sen. Mike Moon, R-Ash Grove, was joined by several members of the Missouri General Assembly on Tuesday in announcing support for the Attorney General’s defense of Senate Bill 49, the “Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act.” Several groups filed the lawsuit Noe et. al v. Parson et. al against the state in an attempt to halt implementation of SB 49. The case is currently being heard by the Cole County Circuit Court. The attorney general’s office is defending the constitutionality of the law. “I want Missouri to be the safest state in the nation for children, which is why I’m not going to let anyone push a radical social agenda on our kids,” said Attorney General Bailey. “I’m proud to be defending the SAFE Act, passed by the General Assembly earlier this year, as we work together to protect vulnerable children from these inhumane science experiments.” Senator Moon and Rep. Brad Hudson, R-Cape Fair, guided SB 49 through the General Assembly as the primary bill sponsors. The bill was signed into law by the governor on June 7. Under SB 49, no health care provider can perform gender transition surgeries on any minor. The act also places a four-year prohibition on the prescribing or administering of cross-sex hormones or puberty-blocking drugs to a minor for a gender transition. “After hearing testimony and further researching these procedures, the General Assembly took what I believe are the proper and necessary steps to ensure the protection of children,” said Sen. Moon. “I am grateful for Attorney General Bailey’s efforts to defend the law and our children. We trust the court to weigh in on the side of protecting minors from any harm caused by pediatric transgender medical practices.” “I appreciate our attorney general’s efforts to defend the law that we worked so diligently to pass,” said Rep. Hudson. “I am praying the court respects our responsibility to protect Missouri’s children from life altering, experimental procedures.” The court hearing began on Friday, August 18 and is expected to conclude on Thursday, Aug. 24.
