Sept. 13 Veto Session Recap

The Missouri General Assembly returned to Jefferson City on Sept. 13 to conduct its constitutionally mandated legislative veto session. Though the House voted to override several budget vetoes issued by the governor following the 2023 regular session that ended May 12, the Senate adjourned without taking any further action. The governor’s budget vetoes stand. By law, a two-thirds “yes” vote in both chambers is necessary to override a governor’s veto.

Get Ready for Flu Season

Flu season is right around the corner, and the best way to prevent the flu is to get your flu vaccine by the end of October. Visit the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services’ website to protect yourself and your loved ones. A yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone six months and older without an increased risk for a serious adverse reaction.

In addition to the flu vaccine, new COVID-19 boosters are also available and recommended for everyone six months and older. COVID-19 cases may be down, but that doesn’t mean the virus is no longer a concern in our community. You can learn more about COVID-19 vaccines here.

My Legislative Priorities Moving Forward

Though the Senate is adjourned until January, my office continues to work hard serving the people of the 24th Senatorial District. My legislative priorities moving forward include supporting public safety and sponsoring legislation to enact common sense gun laws, such as closing the domestic violence loophole. I plan to continue supporting policies that help our brave law enforcement officers and first responders who selflessly protect and serve our community. I will keep working towards more equity in health care by sponsoring legislation that will improve access to birth control. I plan to sponsor bills that support working Missourians, like the Missouri Earned Family and Medical Leave Act, and I will continue my efforts to raise the minimum wage. I want to also protect consumers by fighting for fair utility rates and fees. As always, I would like to hear your ideas and concerns, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or my amazing staff, Anne Ogier and Emily O’Laughlin. You can contact my office by phone at 573-751-9762, send an email to tracy.mccreery@senate.mo.gov and visit my official Missouri Senate website at senate.mo.gov/McCreery.
