Progress Amidst Turmoil

Despite the disagreements occurring in the Senate Chamber, the work continues as bills continue to be heard and voted out of committee.

In the General Laws Committee, which I chair, we heard my own Senate Bill 844. This new regulation will cause money put toward medications to count toward insurance policies out-of-pocket max or any other cost-sharing requirement the policy has, no matter where that money comes from. It will only apply to medications that have no generic alternative.  This will alleviate the burden the cost of medications has on families and individuals. The committee also heard Senate Bill 830 which will require the publication of educational pamphlets that provide non-opioid alternatives.

We also heard from Missouri’s governor during the State of the State address. Throughout the governor’s address I was reminded of the great things we can accomplish when we work together. Namely, creating over 110,000 new jobs, reducing Missouri’s debt burden and reducing the number of elective abortions from 8,000 to zero. Working for the state of Missouri is a great honor and I’m reminded daily of that fact.

I will continue to provide updates on my legislation as it advances and on the work of the committees I serve on. Please reach out to my office if you have any questions or would like to be a witness in any hearings.

Please feel free to contact my office at 573-751-2076. For information about my committee assignments or sponsored legislation, please visit my official Missouri Senate website at senate.mo.gov/Bernskoetter.

I was also proud to stand by Kayla Hahn as she stood before the Gubernatorial Appointments Committee and was appointed as a member of the Public Service Commission.
