Stalled on the Floor
Hello! I hope you enjoyed the holiday this week. Congratulations to the Chiefs for their back-to-back Super Bowl Championships! I’m very proud of the hard work they’ve put in to bring this victory home to Missouri. The Senate spent its time this week focusing on initiative petition (IP) reform. Discussion revolved around Senate Joint Resolution 74 and various amendments proposed to perfect it. SJR 74 would require approval from a majority of voters in at least five of Missouri’s eight congressional districts in addition to a majority of voters statewide. This change would protect our most sacred document, the Missouri State Constitution, from out-of-state special interest groups and ensures rural voices cannot be ignored. Progress on the bill was slowed by those in opposition choosing to filibuster, but this next week I am prepared to stay day and night to perfect this bill and send it to the House. I will continue to keep you updated on the progress of this bill and other important legislation I am working to push through the Senate. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my offices, or come by to discuss any concerns you might have. Senator Travis Fitzwater serves residents of Callaway, Lincoln, Montgomery, Pike and a portion of St. Charles counties in the Missouri Senate. For more information about Sen.
