Senator Tony Luetkemeyer’s Senior Citizen Tax Credit Passes in the Senate
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer’s, R-Parkville, Senate Bill 756 passed the Senate on Thursday. Sen. Luetkemeyer’s bill modifies an existing property tax credit meant for all seniors. The originally bill, passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by the governor in 2023, unintentionally left out certain professions who do not receive Social Security, such as teachers and firefighters. This bill would modify the tax credit to include all seniors whether they are on Social Security or not. This is to ensure all seniors on a fixed income receive relief amidst rising housing taxes. “It’s very important that no seniors are left out of this critical property tax relief,” Luetkemeyer said. “This change will now do what it was always intended to do and help seniors on fixed incomes remain in their homes.” The bill now moves to the Missouri House of Representatives.
