Education Reform
Another beautiful week with some thunderstorms rolling through the state. It’s feeling more like spring every day. Here in the Senate, discussions have focused on perfecting bills through amendments and compromise. While the process can be tedious, I am working tirelessly to ensure you are properly represented.
The Committee on Governmental Accountability heard my Senate Bill 1340. This bill requires the board of directors of an ambulance district to attend mandatory training and to audit themselves. Those who don’t follow these guidelines could have their licenses revoked. This will help to improve the quality of ambulance districts and make sure these life-saving services are running the way they are supposed to.
One subject I expect to discuss in the chamber this upcoming week is education reform. I believe it is important that parents have the freedom to choose the educational path best suited for their children. Whether that be public school, charter school, private school or homeschool, parents should get to make that choice.
Senate Bill 727 creates a school voucher system that allows parents to put money toward the educational needs of their children, no matter the environment they would like their children to be in. It also allows for more charter schools to be operated throughout the state. Parents would be allowed to receive tax credits based off the amount they pay for their children’s education, opening the door for more families to have more options.
I have always supported teachers and the education system with my votes here in the General Assembly. I also have always prioritized students.
As always, I welcome anyone who wishes to visit my office with questions or concerns, and if you want to be a witness for any bills please contact my offices.
