Senator Nick Schroer Advocates for Missouri’s Radiation Victims with New Senate Resolution

JEFFERSON CITY – State Sen. Nick Schroer, R-O’Fallon, introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution 35 in the Missouri Senate on Monday afternoon. This resolution urges the federal government to reauthorize and update the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act.

“In the shadow of the Cold War, countless individuals stood at the confluence of duty and destiny, their lives indelibly marked by the invisible specter of radiation,” Sen. Schroer said. “These men and women, many unknowingly, became the silent sentinels of our national security, safeguarding our freedoms not with weapons, but with their wellbeing. As we honor their legacy, let us also shoulder the responsibility of ensuring their sufferings are not in vain, recognizing their contributions as foundational to the liberties we hold dear.”

Funding toward reauthorizing the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act has passed in the U.S. Senate and currently awaits a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. Passage of SCR 35 would inform members of Missouri’s congressional delegation the Missouri General Assembly is in full support of continuing the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act.

“I stand in solidarity with those affected by the Weldon Spring site in my home district and those affected by other sites across Missouri and the nation,” Sen. Schroer said. “It's imperative that we act decisively to honor the sacrifice of our fellow citizens.”
