Fighting for Life
Greetings! I hope you enjoyed the eclipse. It’s remarkable both this eclipse and the last one, seven years ago, both had totalities in Missouri. It reminds me of how special Missouri is. Likewise, in the Senate we discussed how special life is.
House Bill 2634 was brought to the floor and passed by the Senate this week. This bill prevents government funds from going to abortion-related services or clinics. This bill is very important to me and it’s the lack of this type of language in the federal reimbursement allowance (FRA) which caused me to oppose it. I believe this will help to protect the unborn in Missouri for years to come.
The FRA is federal grant money that can be used to fund various medical facilities throughout the state. In years previous to 2020, FRA and state funds were restricted from going to abortion providers through language included in the state operating budget. However, the courts determined that language could not be included in the budget, so I believe passing a standalone bill that includes these restrictions is key this session.
As the Senate moves forward in the second half of session, I want to stress how much I appreciate my constituents and the time they spend coming to the Capitol. If you have any questions or concerns please contact my offices or come for a visit.
As always, I appreciate hearing your comments, opinions and concerns. Please feel free to contact me in Jefferson City at 573-751-4302. You may also email me at denny.hoskins@senate.mo.gov.
