Senator Denny Hoskins Aims to Eliminate Wasteful Government Spending

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Denny Hoskins, R-Warrensburg, says it is time to remove wasteful projects in the state budget.

“I do not support these wasteful ‘pork’ projects in the budget,” Sen. Hoskins said. “I believe putting these items in the state budget is an attempted sleight-of-hand effort to rob taxpayers of their hard-fought money.”

Sen. Hoskins noted multiple lines in House Bill 2007 and House Bill 2005

  • $3.5 million for improvements to Hammons Field in Springfield – home of the Springfield Cardinals.
  • $7.5 million to support the Kansas City Current professional women’s soccer team.
  • $500,000 to promote golf in Missouri.
  • $1 million for a Missouri Route 66 monument.
  • $17.5 million to pay for the logistics of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Missouri’s budget has grown from $28 billion in 2019 to a proposed budget of $53 billion for fiscal year 2025. Sen. Hoskins said, “We must reduce government spending and put more money back in Missourians’ pocket.”

The finalization of the fiscal year 2025 state operation budget has a constitutional deadline of Friday, May 10.
