Senator Tony Luetkemeyer’s Senior Property Tax Relief Bill Passes the House JEFFERSON CITY — On Friday, the Missouri House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 756. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville, extends a property tax freeze to all seniors age 62 or older. Senate Bill 190, sponsored by Sen. Luetkemeyer and signed into law in 2023, included a tax freeze for all seniors who receive Social Security benefits. Senate Bill 756 extends that relief to those seniors who receive their retirement income from pensions, such as teachers, police and firefighters. The legislation also included technical updates to SB 190 to encourage more counties to adopt it. The new bill ensures all seniors will receive the tax relief granted under SB 190, amid rising real estate taxes. “No senior should be taxed out of their homes due to rising real estate taxes,” Luetkemeyer said. “Under this new legislation, all seniors are protected.” The bill now moves to the governor for his consideration.
