Senator Sandy Crawford's Capitol Report for the Week of June 24, 2024

    June 27, 2024

July 4 is Independence Day, and many of us will celebrate by hosting barbecues, attending parades and watching fireworks light up the sky. Let us not forget the reason we celebrate this very special day: the day that our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence.

On July 4, 1776, the signing of the Declaration of Independence signaled the birth of the United States of America — a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

We, as Americans, should never forget why we have our freedoms and how they were won. Today, there are still those who are willing to give everything for their country. These brave men and women remind us that the liberties we often take for granted are valuable and worth fighting for. Happy 248th birthday, America!
