Senator Tony Luetkemeyer’s “Max’s Law” Signed by Governor JEFFERSON CITY — The governor signed State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer’s, R-Parkville, Senate Bill 754 Tuesday. This bill creates multiple public safety laws to ensure the safety and protection of Missourians throughout the state. The underlying bill, sponsored by Sen. Luetkemeyer, is known as “Max’s Law,” and protects law enforcement K9s by increasing the penalties for injuring or killing these animals. “This law has been a priority of mine for years,” Luetkemeyer said. “I am so happy to see it cross the finish line and that the punishment will fit the crime when these K9 officers are harmed.” In addition, the bill places a ban on celebratory gun fire through “Blair’s Law,” establishes a cyber-crimes task force, removes parole for juveniles convicted of second-degree murder and creates new penalties for fleeing arrest from law enforcement officers. The bill will go into effect Aug. 28, 2024. For more information about Sen. Luetkemeyer, visit senate.mo.gov/Luetkemeyer. ### |
