The Importance of Agriculture
There is no greater industry in our state than agriculture. Farmers and ranchers are connected to the land of Missouri, and we know how to celebrate the bounty this great state gives us. The land provides us with the opportunity to grow and harvest the food that feeds not only Missourians, but also people across the country and around the planet. We are blessed to be situated on the largest continuous piece of arable land in the world. Across the Midwest, but especially in Missouri, crops are grown, and livestock raised that feed this world.
As the owner of a family farm, where I have a cow and calf operation, I take pride in the fact Missouri beef is on millions of dinner plates. We are an agricultural state, and I hope there will always be those in the coming generations who are willing to work the land to feed the world.
As a State Senator in Jefferson City, I will continue to support our agriculture community in every way possible. I believe the bedrock of our state’s economy is agriculture. In Missouri, our farmers raise diverse crops, such as rice in the Bootheel and wheat in the great northwest. We have every sort of livestock from beef to hogs to chicken. We also have many processing plants and operations which allow our animals and crops to be distributed onto the shelves of our local grocery stores.
Missouri is a farming state and will remain one as long as there are people willing to work the land. We must continue to protect our farmers and ranchers, and keep them free to do the work of so many generations before.
