Moving Forward

The primary election for the state of Missouri was held last week, and while not all the candidates and issues you supported may have prevailed, each of our elections is marvelous to me. Elections always remind me of the strength of our nation and our democracy.

It is amazing to think we the people of this state can come together and collectively decide on the path we want Missouri to take. Though we disagree vehemently on the political issues and candidates, I think we can all agree, the sheer fact that we unite as one to take part in our democracy is a feat worth celebrating.

Nowhere else in the world can you find an electoral system where both the electors and the elected are as vigorously engaged as in the United States of America. Each candidate fights hard to win the election, and I respect anyone who has the courage to put their name on the ballot and ask for a vote from their fellow Americans. Elections can be an exhausting and grueling affair - I have lived through several of them myself. Sometimes in the stress of the electoral battle, we can lose sight of what a marvel it is that we are allowed to take part in these elections at all.

It is so special and unique that we come together, without violence or coercion, to vote on who our leaders will be. To decide where the direction of our government will go. I will continue to believe in the strength of democracy as long as Americans continue to unite to take part in the electoral process.
