Returning to School

Across the state, children are heading back to school as summer break comes to an end. I have watched my own grandchildren start the process of adjusting from their summer routine to getting up early and ready for school again. I believe the greatest gift we can bestow to our children and the youth of Missouri is education. Education is the silver bullet that can unlock the solutions for so many of the problems facing our state. It can guarantee a bright future by giving kids the skills they need to flourish.

I am proud that throughout my time in the General Assembly I have consistently supported education, undertaken efforts to increase funding for schools and passed policies that improve the education system. During my 14 years in the legislature, our state has faced tough economic times as well as the disruption and hardship of the Covid-19 epidemic. Through all of that, we have continued to increase funding towards education in Missouri. 

A budget is not just numbers and decimals in a bill, but a demonstration of priorities. Where we choose to allocate our funds is an expression of what we as a state believe are the most important factors toward continued safety and success. Our education system has always been at the top of that list because education is so important to Missouri and its future.

As your State Senator, I will continue to make improving and supporting education a priority of mine, and I will tirelessly vote in favor of policies and budgets that favor our children and students.
