The Importance of Voting

We are entering the home stretch of the election season. In the coming weeks, I will be covering the different ballot proposals and telling you my position on each of them. This week I would like to encourage all citizens to get involved in the election process.

There are many ways to do this, and the easiest is to vote! All Americans should get out and vote for their government and leaders. We are blessed to live in a nation where we, the people, get to decide who leads us and what policies should be followed. By participating in elections, Americans exercise their choice on a range of issues that effects the direction our nation, state, and local governments will take.

Elections are also a chance for our government to be responsive to the will of the people. If the citizens of this nation disagree with the direction America is taking, then they should get out there and vote for new leadership to take our nation down a new path.

Voting is also a civic responsibility that honors the sacrifice and struggles of all those who came before us to grant us this right. Men and women of our armed services have died for this right to protect democracy. Further, the civil rights and suffrage movements are full of heroes who sacrificed to spread the institution of voting to further segments of our society, which further reinforces the idea that every voice matters in shaping our future. So, please take part in the election by voting.
