Breaking Down Amendment 3 This week, I would like to take a moment and discuss with you one of the major ballots measures up for consideration this November: Amendment 3. Amendment 3 is a constitutional amendment to the Missouri constitution that seeks to roll back the progress our state has made to make Missouri a pro-life state by legalizing abortion once more in the state. With the United States Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Court overturned Roe v. Wade and moved the power to regulate abortions from the federal government to the states. With that freedom, the voters in Missouri have resoundingly chosen life. They have pushed and voted for pro-life elected officials and pro-life policies that seek to protect the unborn, and we in office have done our best to fulfill that desire. In 2019, the General Assembly passed House Bill 126, which banned abortions after 8 weeks in Missouri and determined abortions simply because a child had Down syndrome were illegal; however, the law would continue to allow abortions in cases where the mother’s life was in danger. Initially, before the Supreme Court’s decision, this law was tied up in litigation, but once the decision was announced, the governor signed a proclamation putting the law into effect and immediately began saving lives. Missouri is a pro-life state. Here in Missouri, we believe in the sanctity of life and the importance of protecting it. The General Assembly has spent the past 20 years fighting the abortion movement in Missouri, and after a long struggle, have seen the number of abortion clinics in Missouri go from 12 to none, and the number of abortions go from the thousands to zero. We have banned the procedure and have made Missouri safe for life. The passage of Amendment 3 in Missouri would roll back all the progress we have made in Jefferson City to ban abortions in our state and save the unborn. It would take us back to the time when Missouri had over a dozen abortion clinics across the state and countless lives were being lost. I am strongly against the passage of Amendment 3 and plan on voting ‘no.’ I hope you will join me with your vote this November and help keep Missouri a pro-life state.
