Beginning of Session
As I start my final term representing you in the Missouri Senate, I am filled with a profound sense of duty and optimism for the 2025 legislative session. It continues to be the honor of a lifetime to serve you in this chamber. The beginning of this session was marked by the swearing-in of both re-elected and newly elected senators, a ceremony that underscores the democratic principles we uphold.
One of my main priorities is advocating for our dedicated state employees. Recognizing their valuable contributions, I am committed to ensuring they receive the support and compensation they deserve. Additionally, I am focused on addressing the childcare crisis that many Missouri families face, striving to develop solutions that alleviate this pressing issue.
In addition, public safety remains at the forefront of my agenda, and I am dedicated to working with the governor to advance legislation that combats crime and keeps our communities safe. Any policies we enact to combat crime must include support for our law enforcement officials. Our police and sheriff deputies are on the frontline, protecting families and homes. The legislature must do all it can to support them, regardless of if they are serving in rural Missouri or major metropolitan areas.
With the passage of Amendment 3, all pro-life advocates must work together to find ways to protect the lives of the unborn. In my opinion, Missouri remains a pro-life state, and I am encouraged by the fact the governor agrees. The legislature and the governor must work together to protect life in our state.
I was pleased to see the governor immediately take executive action to direct the Missouri State Highway Patrol to work with the Department of Homeland Security to protect our state from illegal immigration and the deadly flow of narcotics into Missouri. I hope this is just the first step of many the state and federal governments can take together to end illegal immigration in our country.
Finally, I look forward to working with the governor and my colleagues in the General Assembly to keep our economy growing and strong. The General Assembly must reduce regulation and maintain low taxes for Missouri small businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of Missouri’s economy, and their success is crucial to the economic success of Missouri.
As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of this legislative session, I remain steadfast in my commitment to serving the people of Missouri. By working through the legislative process with deliberation and good faith, I am confident meaningful policies can be enacted, enhancing the quality of life for all Missourians.
