The Start of Session
Greetings from your favorite Senator Angela Mosley! I hope you had a happy New Year and are starting 2025 strong. I was sworn in for my second term on Wednesday, Jan. 8 in the Senate Chamber and am honored to once again serve the 13th Senatorial District! I also got to welcome my beautiful new grandbaby to the Senate.
On Monday, I had the chance to also serve on the escort committee for the statewide inauguration as those elected to statewide office took their oaths of office. I attended the Inaugural Ceremony and Ball alongside my daughter State Representative Chanel Mosley. Walking down the grand staircase with her was a truly special moment for me that I will cherish forever.
In regard to my filed bills, these five are my top legislative priorities this session and will be assigned to a committee in the coming weeks:
- Senate Bill 40 – Creates the Missing and Murdered African American Women and Girls Task Force to investigate violence against African American women and protect them.
- Senate Bill 41 – Establishes the Christian Taylor Ferguson (CTF) Medical Alert System to help find children who are missing and in danger because of a medical condition.
- Senate Bill 42 – Requires schools to conduct annual safety assessments to see what vulnerabilities exist to a potential shooter crisis and create solutions to protect children.
- Senate Bill 130 – Allows Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds to be used at partnered restaurants to get hot meals for the elderly, disabled and homeless.
- Senate Bill 131 – Changes funding so any student who qualifies for reduced price lunch with the National School Lunch Program will instead be given free lunch.
- Senate Joint Resolution 14 – If approved by voters, widens the property tax exemption for former prisoners of war with a disability to include all former prisoners of war and also would extend a portion of the benefits to all disabled veterans.
I also wanted to highlight the Missouri Senior Resource line with Area Agencies on Aging (AAA). Seniors just need to call their number and provide their zip code and they will be connected with their local AAA. Their goal is to support aging Missourians, keeping them in their home and living independently. If you are over the age of 60 please reach out to see what they can do for you.
To contact your local AAA, call the Missouri Senior Resource Line at 1-800-255-5503 or view their AAA map on their website.
Please contact my offices if you have any questions or are interested in being a witness for one of these bills. My office is committed to contacting you within 24 hours. You may also sign up for my newsletter at senate.mo.gov/Mosley. Quarterly town halls with the district to tackle issues in our community are also on the horizon. Let’s continue breaking barriers in 2025!
