Greetings from the State Capitol

It’s great to be back in our beautiful State Capitol! The First Regular Session of the 103rd General Assembly officially began on Jan. 8. Since this year follows a General Election and is the first regular session of a new assembly, the first two weeks of session were filled with procedural and ceremonial traditions. These include the swearing in of newly and re-elected legislators and the first reading of hundreds of proposed bills

The second week began with Inauguration Day activities on Jan. 13 and the swearing in of Missouri’s statewide elected officials, including our new governor. Hundreds of Missourians braved the bitter cold to watch these officials take the oath of office, witness a military flyover and participate in a march to the Governor’s Mansion for the traditional welcome reception. The governor’s Inaugural Ball took place later that evening.

On Jan. 15, the senate pro tem announced committee chairs for the 2025 legislative session, and I am proud to say I have been named chair of the Senate Committee on Government Efficiency. Now that the pomp and circumstance of the opening weeks are behind us, I am excited to roll up my sleeves and get to work eliminating government waste and inefficiencies and passing legislation to move Missouri forward.

With all the inaugural events and committee assignments, it’s no surprise the session has had a slower start. As we head into next week, I’m excited to hit the ground running in committees and start making real progress on the issues that matter most to Missourians.

Senate committees may now start to hear the bills lawmakers began pre-filing in early December. So far, more than 600 bills and resolutions have been filed and first read in the Senate. I have sponsored 19 pieces of legislation for consideration this session. A complete list of 2025 First Regular Session Senate bills can be found by selecting the “Legislation” tab at senate.mo.govA complete list of 2025 Senate committees and members can be found at senate.mo.gov/committees.

Moving forward, bills may be assigned to these committees and hearings will be held so witnesses can comment on the proposed legislation. Once a proposal passes out of committee, the bill may be perfected, voted on and sent to the House of Representatives. Bills that pass both chambers head to the governor for his veto or signature.

It is an honor to continue serving my constituents in the Missouri Senate. I remain committed to protecting the lives of the unborn, prioritizing education, defending our religious freedom and fighting for the Second Amendment. I am excited to continue working hard this session to ensure Missouri remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.
